Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby need to be pinching themselves to imagine that they’ve picked up the Olympic torch design bid. Whilst established designers of their very personal correct, with a corporation that continues to create objects that are every helpful and pleasant, BarberOsgerby have been given the prospect to design an object which will go into the historic previous books immediately and convey further consideration to their work.
Punctured with 8000 holes to characterize the 8000 people bringing the torch to London and triangular in type to characterize the third time that the UK has hosted the Olympics, the duo have thought-about many challenges when designing this torch. Having to consider that a 12 yr earlier teenager may need to run for M mile holding the torch, weight is an important concern inside the design. Heat is clearly one different concern, so the design companions used the perforations on the dimensions of the torch to allow air by the use of and funky the merchandise down.
Very clever stuff… and this pretty, enchanting and recognisable object was born.
